A company based in Wales, IQE, has been awarded a massive £1 million in funding provided through the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), which was set up in order to provide funds for the research and development of broadband technology.
The Cardiff based technology company has been given the funding in order for it to look into the development of high speed broadband connections.
More specifically, new generation broadband products will be investigated.
IQE specialises in the development and production of laser technology and it is this technology that the TSB believes is worth investing in.
The company says that initially it will be researching into diode laser components.
The idea is to see where this technology can fit into the development of next generation broadband, in particular the last link of the network to the home.
