Vizio VF550XVT 55-inch LCD

vizio-vf550xvtVizio usually gives us reasonably priced LCDs with adequate features that is perfect for those consumers content on just watching television. However, the VF550XVT is a surprise for everyone. The VF550XVT packs a 55-inch LCD screen at a reasonable price, but its image, sound, and extra features don’t add up to a very good HDTV. This is quite contrary to what we know about Vizio’s line of HDTVs.

In tests, the VF550XVT gave an unspectacular performance. One of its major flaws is its serious pixelation problems. One can also notice the set’s problems with color accuracy, displaying scenes with a yellowish, smoky tint.

That is just half of it. The audio isn’t very good either. Despite a visible sound bar mounted below the unit, the set still can’t seem to get the right blend of sound. Sound tends to break when it reaches a higher level and the audio suffered from weak bass as well.

The VF550XVT has picture-in-picture, which works fine as long as you’ve turned off the parental control Rating option. And there’s a PIP button on the remote.

Indeed, at 55-inches, this LCD comes in a reasonable price, but, problems with image quality, weak sound, and clumsy menus, along with a lack of interesting features, make this set difficult to recommend. This is a bit disappointing for a company that a lot of people have come to admire.

  1. Seen this model in stores and have to hold back from buying it because I know Vizio is coming out with their new model, the 551XVT, pretty soon. It is supposed to be back-lit LED technology, which I hear is better quality than the side-lit which makes the picture look weird at the edges.
