New Ethernet cable will change HDTV connections

The HDMI interface that is found on HDTVs will now support Ethernet with the new HDMI 1.4 which was announced this week by designers among other improvements to the High-Definition Multimedia Interface.

One perk of the new Ethernet 100-Mbit capabilities is that users will not need to purchase separate cables, as the new 4K cable will support video at the standard 4096 by 2160 size and Ethernet.

President of the HDMI Licensing Company, Steve Venuti, stated that the new specifications are aimed at providing wider functionality to PCs that have HD capabilities and that the 1.4 specifications will bring solutions to wider customer satisfaction.

He also pointed to future devices that will aim to broaden solutions for 3D experiences.

With the growth in CE devices it is not surprising that an Ethernet connection has been developed serving as an easy way to transfer data via a device without wireless or Bluetooth capabilities.

Other improvements include equipping HDTV cables with better insulation to sharpen colours from digital camera transfers.

The new 4K standard is not yet equipped for the higher digital camera standard cables, but is expected to follow the June 30th release of the Ethernet wire.

However, it will provide a 100Mn per second Internet connection, audio channels for up streaming, and HD images with a resolution that is 4x 1080p.

The new 4.1 will also allow HDTVs to hook up with Internet connections from Blue-ray, set-top boxes, and gaming consoles such as Xbox or PlayStation 3.

In fact, it can even be used on automotive televisions as well.
