Microsoft's cost effective Mediaroom IPTV

Microsoft has announced plans to make the Mediaroom IPTV a cost effective solution for small business users as well as larger clients.

Microsoft aims to complete this goal by making the Mediaroom IPTV platform offer full virtualization capabilities including virtualized support capabilities.

Thus, the Mediaroom platform will provide users with hardware at 80% less than typically needed and reduced management budgets, while simultaneously speeding up its release date by approximately three weeks.

Microsoft claims that the new model will allow companies to reach 30,000 subscriber homes using less than ten actual servers due to the new visualization perks.

This is in sharp contrast to the standard sixty servers that would be necessary for 30,000 subscriber homes.

Windows Sever 2008 Hyper-V is at the core of the virtualization addition to the Mediaroom IPTV which allows for various servers to host off of one physical server.

This is what makes the new platform a cost effective solution for small companies with a smaller operating budget.

The new enhanced MediaRoom IPTV platform will still include the features of the older model such as DVR, VOD, HDTV, and many more.

According to the general manager for Microsoft’s TV, Video, and Business department, Andreas Mueller-Schubert, the new Mediaroom IPTV service is the most economic platform in the market which they hope will appeal to operators in today’s economy.

ATT&T is currently the largest mobile provider that utilizes the Mediaroom IPTV platform.

Currently it hosts the AT&T U-Verse television service.
