Entanet to trial 40 Mbps FTTC

The wholesale provider of voice and broadband services, Entanet, is collaborating with BT to trial the latest 40 Mbps fibre to the cabinet broadband (FTTC) service.

The trials will be taking place in Muswell Hill, London and Whitchurch, Cardiff.

The tests will use the current BT broadband infrastructure together with the latest BT 21st century network, for a testing period of around six months.

The goal of the test is provide a reliable up-to-40 Mbps downstream and an upstream of 2 Mbps, but Entanet believes that an upstream of around 5 Mbps is not unrealistic.

The work going on to develop the technology is fine, but there is still the issue of distance from the cabinet to the home, and some users may find that the up-to-40 Mbps service is a rare occurrence.
