The Broadband forum has announced the “Splitter Testing” Technical Report 127 (TR-127), which aims to improve Quality of Service and IPTV customer satisfaction.
As IPTV is broadcast over a complex IP network, any impairment of the network can affect the video and audio quality of digital TV.
This new report gives network operators and independent test labs the opportunity to carry out a system level test across four key IPTV network elements; the DSLAM, the CPE modem, the Central Office Splitter and the CPE Splitter.
Testing splitters as part of a complete system will ensure that the new TR-127 compliant splitters will stop a video signal being disturbed by telephone signals on the same line.
This problem has affected the quality of Triple Play services since their inception.
The new TR-127 specification enhances the interoperability of splitters and in-line filters with xDSL transceivers in an active, dynamic telephony environment, and should ensure that telephone activity no longer affects the quality of IPTV services.
