Virgin Media is looking into bringing out a new electronic programmes guide (EPG), but this process is likely to take a couple of years.
The cable firm is currently at the design stage of the new EPG, which will eventually replace the current EPG, according to a company spokesperson at the “Driving Digital Content” seminar in London.
A concept design was shown at the event, which shows that the company is planning to use a scrolling bar system that will be able to show on demand content, as well as broadcasting content, on the same page.
The idea is to move away from the current TV Guide format that offers the standard programming guide as Virgin Media wants to develop relationships with its customers.

Too little to late. If they wanted to develop a relationship with their customers, they would have found out that their EPG has sucked for years and quickly made the several tweaks that could add more value. At the same time, give an ear to its customer’s opinions and suggestions.I was yanked from a perfectly good EPG (NTL) and slapped with a restrictive Virgin one just so they could rebrand the service. They did not care what customers thought then and I certainly haven’t been asked my opinion on the new one. Sorry, not going to wait for you Virgin, any longer. Oh and Virgin, when I press the ‘Guide’ button, I DO want a TV Guide.
