TV licence might help broadband

As expected, the funding left over from TV Licence money put aside to help the elderly and those on low incomes switch to digital TV, could be moved from TV Licensing and used by the government towards the broadband for all scheme.

But it seems that the government may have got its timing wrong, as the broadband for all plan aims to provide all of the UK with a minimum broadband service of 2 Mbps by 2012, yet the digital switchover will not be completed until 2012.

Therefore the money identified for the digital switchover assistance scheme will need to be diverted a long time before the digital switchover has been completed around the UK.
