Sky news to go 24 hour HD
by Alan Harten

Sky announced recently that it will expand its broadband mobile and television packaging to include HD television channels as well, that were not previously available.
In fact, one of the newest additions will be Sky News HD which will be the first UK channel to broadcast 24 hour news into homes beginning in the spring of 2010.
The news channel and many more are meant to give subscribers a self-described ‘groundbreaking’ way to view news and stay up-to-date, which will also have plenty of HD 3D graphics inter spliced into it to make the news more appealing to the general viewer.
Head of Sky News, John Ryley, added that the appearance of an HD news channel is a ‘landmark’ for both news broadcasting in general and Sky.
The HD news stations will broadcast live from West London where Sky headquarters are located.
Jeremy Darroch, the Sky chief executive, stated that he expects HD news will be most popular with those who already have the Sky+HD package.
He also stated that viewers of the news can expect to receive award winning commentary and excellent broadcasting services.
Sky News HD has been viewed on a temporary basis, as the channel aired Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration to viewers back on January 20th of 2009.
Current HD packages from sky that include telephone, broadband, and television start at £32.50.
Last quarter Sky reported an increase in subscribers for its HD service reaching up to 1.022 million, which is 465,000 more than in the last quarter of 2008.
