Openwave Guardian protects mobile network

US-based Openwave Systems this week launched a new service that enables mobile operators to protect their network and subscribers.

Openwave Guardian protects mobile networks from viruses and security threats, and protects network subscribers from inappropriate and unwanted content.

“As more and more subscribers are using their mobile devices to access internet content, operators are under more pressure than ever before to protect their networks and subscribers,” said Dan Nguyen, Openwave’s VP of product management.

Key features of Openwave Guardian included content control, safe search, anti-virus, and redirect to splash page.

Content control can be managed by URL category or content type, allowing mobile operators to restrict a user’s access to specific sites, for example to prevent under 18s from accessing adult content.

Safe search allows mobile operators to automatically activate safe search on search engines such as Google for users under 18.

Anti-virus performs automatic content analysis of websites to check for malicious software viruses.

Redirect to splash page allows operators to control how they communicate to subscribers following a security interception.

The Openwave Guardian infrastructure is designed to incorporate new features as new security threats emerge.
