ISPs will need to cut illegal filesharing by 70%

As part of the Digital Britain plan, it seems that the regulator Ofcom, as well as the internet service providers, will have to cut internet piracy by seventy per cent by this time next year.

ISPs will have to write to customers who are found to be guilty of piracy, warning them that their habit is illegal and in the case of customers who take no notice, their details will be handed over to the copyright holders who will no doubt take legal action.

For those ISPs who feel that this is not for them to do, Ofcom will be able to impose other sanctions such as blocking internet access to certain site, bandwidth capping and content filtering.

However, it is widely believed that most customers would stop after receiving notice that their ISP knows what they are up to.
