According to new figures released at the BITKOM IPTV summit in Berlin, the amount of German households that receive IPTV services is rapidly growing, with 1.2 million households projected to receive IPTV by the end of 2009 and an even more stunning projection of 1.8 million by 2010.
This is a large jump given that BITKOM estimated there were only 180,000 households using IPTV services in Germany in 2007 and only 536,000 by the close of 2008.
Vice President of BITKOM, Achim Berg, stated at the summit that the numbers clearly show that internet television is going to become the standard television of the future due to the individualized and interactive approach that only the internet can take towards television.
Currently, the largest providers in Germany of IPTV television are HanseNet, Arcor, and Deutsche Telekom.
