BT is looking to expand its network of Wi-Fi hotspots by signing a deal with Cashbox, a major supplier of ATM cash machines in the UK.
Cashbox currently has around two and half thousand ATMs throughout the UK and this deal will see each one turned into a Wi-Fi hotspot that will provide access to the BT Openzone, for customers who are in the vicinity of the machine.
Initially there will only be ten machines converted to provide Wi-Fi, although the location of these is not known.
However, this is a five year deal and by the end of that term, all of the machines will have become a Wi-Fi hotspot.
BT currently has around 190,000 Wi-Fi hotspots around the UK at the moment and 4.8 million broadband customers that have Wi-Fi minutes included within their phone and broadband package.
