Company email used for jobs and love life

It is a sign of the times that staff are regularly using their work email account to either apply for jobs or to flirt with a love interest, according to Proofpoint, the email security firm.

Almost a third of people who took part in Proofpoint’s survey claimed that they had used their work email to send flirting messages, while around a quarter had actually dumped their lovers using their work email.

There are security implications involved with employees using their work email address for personal messages, especially when it comes to dumping a partner, as there could be problems if there is a legal battle over property etc, when the email could be used as evidence.

Another use for the work email is, surprisingly, applying for other jobs.

Around thirty six per cent of those asked, admitted to applying for a job using their work email address.
