New Freeview PVR TV uses SD card for recording

Cello has introduced its new Freeview PVR TV, but this time there is no hard drive as recordings will be stored on removable SD Cards.

This is an interesting development as this LCD TV no longer has a noisy, bulky and sometimes unreliable hard drive, as this has been replaced with the smaller SD Card unit.

At this time, there is little information on the maximum size of the SD Card the device can manage, so maybe it could end up like the video days with several SD Cards lying around containing different content.

The TV itself comes in 26” and 32”, has twin Freeview tuners, a DVD player, electronic programme guide and the ability to split the screen and view two channels at once, which could be very useful.

The Cello TV will be available in July and will cost around £400 for the 26” and £470 for the 32” version.

OK, I’ve looked at TV’s with an SD card slot for recording; but where please is advice on:-
    (a) Has the TV a ‘wipe and re-record facility’?
    (b) How many minutes TV recording do you get per Gigabyte of card capacity?
    c) What is the life of an SD card?
Is there nobody out there who knows?
(Is the trade keeping schtumm because if we all go for SD cards, they won’t sell those clunky black recording boxes?).
