Open IPTV forum gets four quality members

The Open IPTV forum has welcomed four new members who want to develop an open set of specifications for IPTV: British Telecom, Netgem, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), and Pirelli Broadband Solutions.

British Telecom is one of the largest IPTV service providers across the UK, providing On Demand Programming alongside regular IP digital television.

It is available to BT customers that have BT Retail Broadband, totalling up to more than 400,000 customers.

As a side note, BT has recently begun to offer Setanta Sports subscriptions to its IPTV ‘BT Vision’ service which may help the Irish station stay afloat and sidestep a possible bankruptcy.

Netgem currently provides scalable solutions to companies seeking a small network investment that is affordable while still offering customers the best viewing experiences, even in areas with low bandwidth, by providing software and set top boxes.

The ITRI is a research organisation that is based in Taiwan to help the Taiwanese technology sector become more globally competitive.

It is globally based however with a HQ in Taiwan and additional offices in the US, Germany, Russia, and Japan.

Finally, the last new member of the Open IPTV forum, Pirelli Broadband Solutions, works to create products that help ease the process of delivering IPTV services to homes and offices that have a broadband connection.

The company works not only with IPTV products, but also access gateways, home networking adapters, fixed-mobile convergence solutions, remote management systems, hybrid set-top boxes, and open middlewares.
