Free internet security barometer

Interoute has launched a new tool called the internet security barometer that is available for free and can alert businesses and users to dangerous malicious activity while online.

The barometer works by collecting data from sensors that are build into the structure of the European internet network and logging the source, destination, and types of dangerous internet activities that take place.

The security barometer then takes the information and weighs it on a scorecard to assign it a threat ranking to users and blacklists DDoS attack detection.

It then ranks security alerts by geographic region based on the origin and perceived destination of attacks to give users an accurate security alert ranking.

With the insight provided from the security barometer organisations and individuals can better prevent attacks and infections that are classified as significant DDoS attacks.

The system took over two years to develop and is based on specialist data feeds to ensure the results and warnings it issues are accurate, while at the same time keeping data anonymous so that the public can receive the information without infringing on any data protection rights.

Interoute will offer the new tool to businesses for free and hopes to offer a better system that also offers historical trends and better diagnostic tools as research continues.

The company currently offers its services to over 3,000 government, carrier, and enterprise consumers.

The announcement of the new security barometer comes alongside the announcement by Microsoft Corp. that Interoute has now been certified as the first European ISP to offer SIP trunking for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Revision 2.
