With the digital switchover in full swing, it has been noticed that there are some people taking advantage of the situation by cashing in on the confusion over what is needed to get digital TV, according to Consumer Focus.
In south Wales the switchover will begin on the 12th August.
This will affect around 132,000 homes and the minimum a consumer needs to do is buy a £25 set top box for each TV in order to receive digital TV.
This warning follows a report from trading standards officers in Dorset, where an electrical retailer told a householder that they should buy a digital TV at a cost of a £1,000.
As a result Consumer Focus has been conducting mystery shopper trials on both aerial fitters and TV retailers in Wales, the results of which are yet to be released.
