Around ninety per cent of all UK homes are now using digital TV according to figures released by the media regulator Ofcom.

These latest figures show that around eighteen million homes in the UK have digital receiver.

The figures for digital video recorders are also on the rise, with one million sold during the first three months of the year, taking the total to just under nine million.

It is Sky+ that dominates the PVR sector, with around 5 million set top boxes installed into UK homes.

This is followed by the Freeview PVR at 2.6 million and the balance of 1.2 million being made up of BT Vision, Top Up TV and Virgin Media’s V+.

As for Freeview, it has been noted that set top boxes have fallen by twenty eight per cent.

It is believed that this is a result of TVs being built with a digital tuner already installed.
