Government to go soft on pirates

It would seem that the government has made a U-turn over the pledge it made to cut internet piracy over the next couple of years.

It was only last year that the government laid out plans to cut internet piracy by around seventy per cent by 2010.

According to the Times, the culture secretary, Ben Bradshaw, has revised the original plan set out last year.

The reason for this revision is because when the pledge was made it was assumed that measures would be in place to deal with the issue.

It is claimed that the internet service providers have not made enough effort to tackle this problem either, which is something the government is keen to address before any more predictions are made.

The ISPs will have to monitor and contact illegal file sharers regarding their file sharing activities and assist the copyright owners to take further action.
