ITV in talks with Freesat and Panasonic over HD content

The broadcaster, ITV, is in talks with the satellite provider, Freesat and the electronics manufacturer, Panasonic, regarding the broadcaster’s high definition (HD) content and the ability to record it onto a Blu-ray disc.

Currently ITV’s HD content is flagged with “Copy Never” codes, which prevent it from being copied by the Panasonic Blu-ray recorder and Freesat reviver.

The BBC allows its HD content to be copied once, from the machine’s hard drive.

According to Digital Spy, ITV is talking to both parties in order to find a suitable solution to the issue for HD content, that will be in line with the broadcaster’s programmed rights contracts.

HD content was launched by ITV last year on the Freesat electronic programme guide (EPG), but what has set the ball rolling is that ITV HD content is available on the newly launched Sky+ HD EPG.
