Illegal file sharing drops in the UK

In a recent survey, conducted by digital music strategists Music Ally and research firm The Leading Question, it was found that illegal file sharing has fallen against figures from 2007.

The survey of a thousand music fans revealed that those who regularly download illegal music stood at around seventeen per cent as at January 2009, whereas in December 2007 the figure was twenty two per cent.

There are signs of a significant drop in file sharing from the 14 to 18 age group, with only twenty six per cent admitting to downloading illegal music, compared with forty two per cent.

It seems that music video streaming is taking the credit for this drop, with the likes of YouTube and Spotify offering access to free music as long as the user watches an advert or two.
