Greece gets 21.6 Mbps mobile broadband

The mobile broadband provider Vodafone has been installing the latest advanced technology in Greece.

The high speed packet access (HSPA+) has an estimated top speed of 21.6 Mbps for downloads and 5.7 Mbps for uploads.

This is as huge difference to the UK where, according to broadband communications firm Epitiro, the average mobile broadband speed is just 1 Mbps.

The new service will only serve certain parts of Athens.

However, it is expected to spread out as the company continues its planned expansion of the mobile broadband network.

Currently Vodafone Greece is running an HSPA network which has theoretical speeds of 14.4 Mbps for downloads and 2 Mbps for uploads.

Even this network shows the rest of Europe, and in particular the UK, where it should be heading.
