SmoothWall, an internet security provider, announced the release of a new software filtering client yesterday, that should help laptop users who change locations frequently, avoid malware online while browsing.
The new software, titled Mobile Guardian, includes a new technology from SmoothWall known as the Dynamic Content Analysis technology that is able to use algorithms to detect threats on the web instead of relying on URL based security measures.
Mobile Guardian comes at a great time for companies who are worried about the swine flu, because as numbers are expected to raise to 100,000 infections a day by August some businesses are rethinking their remote working possibilities and will need to make sure laptop users access the Internet effectively and securely from wherever they choose to work.
Regardless of health threats, the malicious threats on the internet alone are enough reason to welcome the new security measures, as malicious sites are now said to be multiplying by millions, making the threat of an attack more of an eventual reality then simply a remote possibility.
Posing a larger threat to users is the fact that most malicious malware is no longer hidden on adult websites that are easily avoided, or other breeding grounds, but are instead spread across popular pages and seemingly innocent web locations.
Outside of comprised information, SmoothWall also recently reported that one of the largest threats to businesses is surfing employees.
According to a new study, SmoothWall estimates about £15 billion dollars is lost a year by UK companies because workers are wasting time surfing and emailing instead of concentrating on their work.
