When there is any mention of spam and spammers, normally it is Russia and China that spring to mind as being the main culprits for this menace, but according the security company Sophos this may not be the case any longer.
The figures for the second quarter of 2009 show that the US holds top spot in the league table of world’s worst spammers, with one in every six emails sent being classified as spam.
The US is followed by Brazil, Turkey and India. It seems that the US has a long way to go in the fight to stop spam.
In Russia, the spam laws are in fact strict and this has meant that total spam coming out of Russia has fallen to 3.2 per cent from 7.5 per cent, but newcomer Poland has risen in the league and is now accountable for some 4.2 per cent.
