Boeing has announced that it will be building four new style satellites, which have been ordered by the telecommunications firm Intelsat Ltd.
As with most of these deals there is little information around as to how much the contract is going to be worth, although there are rumours that the total cost could be something in the region of $1 billion.
This order is the first that the company has received for its latest satellite, the Boeing 702B satellite series.
The craft has been designed to operate in the medium level power ranges.
The Intelsat 22 will carry a varying payload including UHF equipment for the Australian Defence Forces, as well as forty eight C Band and twenty four Ku Band transponders, which will be use by Intelsat for its own services.
Because of its size, the satellite can be launched by either the Proton or Ariane launchers.
