The broadcast infrastructure firm Arqiva has paid an estimated £8 million for the technology behind the failed BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel Four video on demand (VoD) joint venture, Project Kangaroo.
Arqiva which is a shareholder in the free to view digital TV service Freeview, plans to use the Project Kangaroo platform to offer a brand new VoD service to consumers in the UK, which will include both pay TV and free to air services.
The company has been delivering analogue and digital TV services to the consumer for a long time, and the addition of a VoD service will be a natural extension to the business.
According to Rob Hamlin, the firm’s strategic development director, Arqiva is now in the process of building the platform into something that is useable.
