Mobile broadband users face heavy penalties

Mobile broadband users who exceed their monthly download limit could be facing a very heavy penalty from their providers.

According to the comparison website moneysupermarket.com around a quarter of all mobile broadband users are not aware of the download limits and that if this is exceeded a charge of up to £200 can be applied to the account.

Even those users who do know that there is a limit on the service, are unaware of what it is or what the potential charges are.

Customers of O2 are penalised more than other users, with a hefty £200 per Gb over the limit, while provider 3 charges £100 per Gb, although both firms do send out a text alert to customers when they have reached their limit.
