Entrust launches worldwide SMS OTP service
by David Masters
Entrust’s one-time-passcode (OTP) SMS service is compatible with 775 mobile networks in 220 countries, following a collaboration with SMS solutions provider Clickatell.
IT security managers across the world using Entrust IdentityGuard can now opt for an added layer of protection by requiring mobile soft token login.
Mobile soft tokens are OTPs sent via text message that expire after a brief period.
Entrust partnered with messaging solutions provider Clickatell to make its OTP SMS service available on mobile networks worldwide, including T-Mobile, Vodafone, O2, and Orange.
Clickatell said using mobile soft tokens can help organisations stay more secure at lower cost.
“A one-time-passcode solution, delivered via our secure and reliable SMS-as-a-Service offering, can help reduce security access costs, improve enterprise application authentication success and provide an unprecedented level of convenience,” said Clickatell CEO Pieter de Villiers.
“SMS OTPs offer customers an easy, convenient way to gain secure access to financial accounts, corporate environments and government networks via the proven second-factor authentication method,” he added.
Entrust said it selected Clickatell to provide SMS OTP because of the firm’s “expertise and global reach”.
“With wide market penetration, Clickatell was the perfect partner to help expand OTP soft token capabilities to Entrust’s global customer base,” said Bill Conner, Entrust president and CEO.
