Yahoo TV Widgets bring Games to your TV

yahoo_widgetTV Widgets are slowly becoming more popular. We already have video service widgets, now, Yahoo TV Widgets is trying to turn our TVs into a gaming platform using the TV remote as a game controller. Well, not really hardcore gaming, but casual games that are basically time-wasters – useful especially when waiting for your favorite TV show to come on.

Funspot has released three games for the platform and so far, they sound very enjoyable. First is Soduko, a highly addictive puzzle game. So far, this is the most solid widget among the three. The controls are responsive and intuitive. You control which box you want to select with the control pad, enter numbers with the number pad, and clear a box with the OK or enter button.

Second is QuizzMaster. A trivia game comprising 10 rounds and supports up to four players. This can be done by passing around the remote control – perfect for a movie marathon break with friends. Like many other similar games, the quicker you answer, the more points you get. The questions focus heavily on geography and history and are not in any sort of difficulty order.

Lastly, there’s Texas Hold ‘Em, a decent card game. I’m pretty sure most of you are already familiar with this game. You can choose from a number of stereotypical and sloppily illustrated characters like Sexy Sonya, Sneaky Sven, Dandy Doug, and, our favorite, Gold Digger Granny. It does not support multiplayer though, and the AI is not that difficult to beat – definitely a time-waster.

All three games, Sudoku, QuizzMaster, and Texas Hold ‘Em, are available on Samsung and LG sets with Yahoo TV Widgets.
