Mobile software firm Myriad Group announced this week that it has joined the Symbian Foundation.
“Symbian OS is one of the most advanced smartphone platforms in the world, and its focus on amazing user experiences makes it a perfect fit with Myriad,” said Simon Wilkinson, Myriad CEO.
“As global leaders in developing software for mass market phones, we look forward to bringing our software and expertise to help create a new range of exciting devices.”
The Symbian platform is based on Symbian OS and was developed with input from Nokia, NTT DOCOMO, and Sony Ericsson.
Symbian is currently being ported to an open source license, and will be fully open source by mid-2010.
Myriad is one of just five companies in the world whose software has shipped on more than one billion mobile handsets.
The company has offices in the UK, the US, China, France, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.
