BBC wins DVD battle

The collapse of Woolworths affected many people and businesses, and one such business was BBC Worldwide.

It was a joint partner with Woolworths in the 2entertain business which was set up to publish DVDs that contain BBC content.

The dispute is over the licensing agreements owned by the DVD publishing business.

The BBC owns a sixty per cent share in the firm and wants to buy the remaining forty per cent stake which was owned by Woolworths for £110 million before the retailer collapsed.

However, since then BBC Worldwide has argued that the offer to buy expired when Woolworths collapsed.

It now believes that the share in 2entertain is worthless to anyone but the BBC.

The administrators from Deloitte are arguing that the agreement has not expired and that the share is a commercial asset.

Fortunately for BBC Worldwide, the court has ruled in its favour, although there is bound to be an appeal.
