UK rights for La Liga still up for grabs

The TV rights for the Spanish premier league La Liga have still not found a home for the 2009/10 season.

It has always been Sky Sports that has shown the top football league from Spain on UK TV.

However, the contract expired at the end of the last season leaving the TV rights in limbo.

It is a surprise that no channel has stepped in to pick up these TV rights, considering the talent that has recently turned up to play for Spanish clubs, such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, along with other favourites too.

It has to be wondered if BSkyB is playing a tricky game, with other sports allowing broadcasters to bid for sports TV rights, but it seems that it will only be Sky Sports and new channel ESPN UK in with a chance of winning the TV rights.
