K7 launches TotalSecurity 10

India-based K7 Computing has launched version 10 of its TotalSecurity internet security software.

New features include generic root kit scanning, scanning for tracking cookies, malicious trace remover, phishing site blocker, DNS hijacking detetor, support for bluetooth devices, Windows 7 readiness, and smart updater.

The silent firewall and user interface have been updated and improved.

K7 said its current customerswill automatically be upgraded to version 10

PC Magazine rates the software 2.5/5, and said that although it’s one of the best ever products for detecting malware, a number of “deficiencies” mean it won’t yet pose a threat to Symantec or McAfee.

“The firewall is fragile and the privacy protection fails in several ways,” said PC Magazine reviewer Neil Rubenking.

“If K7 really intends to succeed in the U.S., its next English-language version is going to have to do a lot better than this one.”

Founded in 1991, K7 is popular across Asia and is the top selling anti-virus provider in Japan.
