On-demand TV platform Project Kangaroo has been acquired by broadcast infrastructure company Arqiva.
Arqiva has acquired the hardware, software, and intellectual property assets of Project Kangaroo, which was developed in a joint venture between BBC Worldwide, Channel 4, and ITV.
Arqiva aims to use the platform to launch a new video-on-demand service in the UK with high quality content from leading broadcasters and independent content providers.
The company also announced the appointment of Pierre-Jean Sebert as the new VOD project.
“I’m very much looking forward to leading the launch of this new platform and to establish it as a prominent proposition in the market,” Sebert said.
“It’s an important new route for quality long-form content to reach an additional audience, and complements Arqiva’s traditional role in terrestrial broadcasting.”
Steve Holebrook, managing director for terrestrial broadcast at Arqiva, said Sebert brings a “wealth of experience” to the role, including stints at EuroSport, Virgin Media, UKTV, Rainbow Media, ONO, and UEFA.
