Pirates will be cut off

As predicted, it looks as if the government will be looking towards removing Ofcom from the piracy loop and handing the power to introduce plans to tackle piracy over to the Secretary of State!

Plans to punish illegal downloaders, which were originally rejected by the government’s own Digital Britain report, look as if they are about to be revamped and presented as the way forward.

There are plenty of rumours as to why the secretary of state for business, innovation and skills, Lord Mandelson has made a U Turn on this, the main reason being that he had a meeting with the outspoken critic of pirates and illegal downloaders, Hollywood magnet David Geffen.

There is a fair way to go before any plan comes into force, in fact 2012 looks to be the target date for the introduction.
