Syamwave is due to reveal additional details about is silicon USB 3.0 at the Monday Hot Chips conference.
The USB 3.0 debuted in November of last year and is able to provide a transfer rage of 5GB per second over the previous USB 2.0 model which was only able to transfer at a 480Mbps.
Symwave also said that when used along with external storage devices data can be transferred up to 500Mbps.
Symwave developed the new USB in order to attack the new need to transfer high definition multimedia data at a higher rate.
It also is looking for a solution for consumers and enterprises that now need to save more of the high level data on a regular basis. Today it can take hours to backup a computer on an external drive which the USB 3.0 hopes to remedy.
Vice president of Symwave’s solutions architecture Gideo Intrater stated that with the new USB 3.0 users are communicating via a straw essentially. He also stated that the USB 2.0 version was simply too slow for users who had more than 100GB on their hard drive.
With the new 3.0 USB a 25Gb movie could be transported in just 70 seconds versus the 13.9 minutes it would take previously with the 2.0 USB.
The new chip takes advantage of SATA in order to provide users with the fast transfer speeds.
