The BBC has announced that it will be introducing audio descriptions to around twenty five hours worth of programming on the iPlayer.
Audio descriptions help the partially sighted understand what is going on in the programme by providing an audio description between the dialogue. This enables the viewer to be able to following the story.
Around twenty five hours worth of programming per week with audio description will be made available to the viewer, including Doctor Who, Being Human, EastEnders, Little Britain, Jam And Jerusalem, Tracy Beaker and The Sarah Jane Adventures.
This is just the beginning of the BBC’s use of this technology as the broadcaster intends to introduce this service to regular programming on the BBC and to introduce more content to the iPlayer.
