AT&T Announces iPhone 3GS MMS Support

Finally its here. AT&T’s long awaited support for Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) will finally arrive come September 25. It missed its end-of-summer target, but hey, I don’t think anybody will complain this time.

Earlier this year, the carrier said at the launch of iPhone 3GS, that MMS capability would be available by the end of the summer. This is because, they had to prepare the network for the record volumes of MMS traffic expected from iPhone users and that they want to ensure an excellent experience from Day One.

This prompted several customers to file lawsuits against Apple and AT&T stating that they are being duped into believing that multimedia messaging, or MMS, was already available on the iPhone. Allegedly, the companies misled their customers in advertising MMS support for the iPhone 3GS and its iPhone OS 3.0. On its various TV, radio and email advertisements, Apple and AT&T aggressively announced its MMS support, but when the product arrived, it wasn’t there for the users to use.
