Lockheed Martin, a company that is behind a wide assortment of security technologies, said that it has now successfully finished a review on the design of a FBI biometrics system that will be used in the Next Generation Identification Program (NGI).
The new biometric fingerprint technology will be placed into the NGI by MorphoTrak.
Once completed, the final system will not only include fingerprint identification but also multiple modalities in biometrics.
Additionally, once the NGI is completely designed it will still have room for upgrades to the infrastructure as needed and for new biometric developments that may be instrumental to the FBI in the future.
Vice President of Lockheed Martin Information, Barbara Humpton, said that this is only the first step towards the NGI system that will be enable the FBI to utilize biometrics.
Humpton also said that each step of the project has been met within the budget proposed and within the appropriate time frame.
Lockheed Martin’s headquarters are found in Bethesda, MD and the company employs about 140,000 globally in its security firm.
It focuses on design, research, manufacture, development, sustainment of technology systems, and integration of the same systems.
In 2008 Lockheed reported sales that totalled $42.7b.
