Slim PS3 sells a bundle

The launch of Sony’s new slim PS3 has sparked huge sales increases. According to Chart-Track, the console has leapt around 1000% week-on-week.

It’s not just the PS3 that has been on a diet, but also its price tag, which has trimmed down to £249, helping to secure this impressive week’s worth of unit shifting.

Indeed Chart-Track stated that the Sony console outsold its fellow Nintendo and Microsoft competition by three-to-one.

The PS2 slim achieved a sizeable sales boost on its release, but nothing quite on this scale. However, it should be noted that the statistics don’t tell the full story. If sales dipped the previous week to the launch, that will have amplified the measured percentage increase.

Even so, there’s no doubting that the console market will be an interesting battlefield on the run up to Christmas, what with the Xbox 360 Elite price cut (to £199) as well.
