Areas of high online credit fraud exposed

When it comes to online credit card fraud large cities would seem to be the favourite place to set up, but according to the fraud screening firm The Third Man, a market town in County Durham is in fact the worst place in the UK for credit card fraud.

Shildon is a standard market town and the residents do not look like those that would be associated in online scams and credit card fraud.

However, this town is a hotspot for items being purchased online with stolen credit card details and then sold on to other people for cash.

It is the borough of Woolwich in London that tops the UK fraud table for fraud values, as in 2008 £2.6 million worth of fraudulent transaction took place there during 2008.

Yet according to the payment service, APAC’s fraudulent payments only account for an amazing 0.12 per cent of all transactions.
