O2 fixes router problem

It would seem that a serious security problem that affected some of O2’s home broadband users has now been fixed.

According to O2, the ISP had contacted customers about the security issue, which allowed the Wireless Box III wireless router provided by O2 to be hacked, the settings changed, and even personal information obtained from the user.

The problem appears to concern the wireless routers manufactured by Thompson, which are the TG585 and TG585n units.

O2 has been working with the router maker to find a solution to this problem and it would seem that this may have been achieved.

The solution will be applied to all of the internet service provider’s Wireless Box III routers by remote.

This means that individual customers do not need do anything to the router at all.
