The proposed music download service from Virgin Media could be under threat because music producers have worries about the service as it will not persuade file sharers and pirates to give up their current activities, but at the same will eat into the current music download market.
The service was announced in June.
It involves a deal with Universal that will allow subscribers to the service to download unlimited amounts of music and keep it forever.
However, for this to be successful the service is going to need more music producers.
Warner Music is talking to Virgin Media about terms.
However, it is EMI and Sony Music that have doubts about the service and have even said that the actual model is flawed.
These concerns do Virgin Media no favours, as the launch scheduled before the end of the year may not be able to go ahead without all of the major music publishers in agreement.
