Everybody’s jumping on the Android bandwagon. Earlier, Motorola revealed its first Android handset, now its LG. LG Electronics has joined the ranks of mobile phone makers putting Google’s Android mobile operating system into smartphones, unveiling the LG-GW620 on Monday. LG’s newest phone is similarly aimed at Internet services specially social networking sites, emails, online maps and particularly Google services.
This is LG’s first Android smartphone. Traditionally, most LG phones use Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, so using Android for one of their handset is a bit surprising and a big leap for Google’s Android OS. In their statement, the company said that the new OS gives it the flexibility to offer more choices to users. However, the company also mentioned that it will be introducing a minimum of 13 new smartphones over the next 16 months that utilize Microsoft’s Windows Mobile.
The LG-GW620 sports a 3-inch touchscreen and slide-out QWERTY keypad and will hit some markets in Europe in the fourth quarter of this year.
