Pace has been showing off its Freeview HD set top box at the IBC Expo in Amsterdam.

This equipment will take Freeview to another level and put considerable pressure on free-to-view rival Freesat.

The Pace DVB T2 is expected to go on sale in the early part of 2010, with a PVR with HD being released shortly afterwards.

As part of the digital switchover, HD content will start to be broadcast from the Winter Hill transmitter on the 1st December.

This serves the Liverpool and Manchester areas.

According to Freeview, those viewers wishing to experience the benefits of HD TV may need to get their orders in early, as the set top boxes are expected to be in short supply when they are first released.
