Pace Plc is set to debut a new set top box at the upcoming IBC platform, which transmits signals using the DVB-T2 standard.
The new box is expected by analysts to be the first set top box in the industry to hit the market for Freeview HD and will be available on the retail market.
The DVB-T2 set top box optimises bandwidth in the network so that Freeview HD can be distributed into homes terrestrially.
In order to create the box, Pace Plc worked alongside UK broadcasters and Freeview to make sure that the box complies with the DVB-T2 standard.
The new box is expected to be released within the first half of next year with at least 50% HD coverage throughout the UK, with the expectation that coverage will be close to complete by the time of the 2012 Olympic Games.
President of Pace France, Mathias Hautefort, said that the new launch of the DBV-T2 is a large step ahead for digital consumers representing the growth of DTT broadcasting across the UK.
Mathias continued to say that via the partnership with Freeview, Pace is now able to bring Freeview HD into viewer’s homes.
Pace will also be showing a new hybrid set up box that has a 3D user interface integrated into the system.
The new format provides graphic enhancements and other effects to allow operators provide greater interactivity.
It will also allow consumers to access a wider variety of rich content across various platforms easier.
