Digital Inclusion suffers computer theft

Darren Allan

Digital Inclusion, a quango which was set up to help millions of disadvantaged Britons get online, has suffered a break-in at its offices.

Apparently several computers were taken, presumably by disadvantaged thieves who were so keen to get online they couldn’t wait for Digital Inclusion’s programme to reach out to them.

The Digital Inclusion team was equally keen to make it clear that no confidential material is at risk due to the theft.

The government funded organisation hopes to make a dent in the figure of 17 million people who are currently not online, an issue of finances for some of Britain’s poorest citizens.

Who are these people ‘Digital Inclusion’ – does anyone know anyone who has benefited from this quango?
I’ve heard of Digital Inclusion programmes in other countries (U.S.) but not over here.
i know of firms that help people in libraries etc to go on-line and i know others who could really benefit from help wiht computing – but i’ve never heard of them.
sounds like they haven’t started their work yet – so perhaps we will hear of them helping people in the future – but the life of this government (and our funding of them) is short, shouldnt we have heard of the work they do?
