T-Mobile, Deutsche Telekom’s mobile division, is building a network of DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting- Handheld) transmitters in partnership with Mobile Broadcast, and hopes to launch a mobile TV service in Germany, using the DVB-H standard, next year.
DVB-H would solve T-Mobile’s problems with its UMTS network, which has been overloaded because of strong demand for its soccer Bundesliga offer LIGA total!
T-Mobile is also busy in North America, where it has become the continent’s fastest mobile broadband network.
The company has launched an HSPA+ service in Philadelphia, which provides speeds of 21 megabits a second.
As usual, however, this is a maximum speed and most sites will have to manage with a mere 7.2 megabits a second.
