Church steeples are to be used as broadband boosters, and it is a wonder that this has not been tried before in areas where broadband speeds are low or non existent.
The city of Hereford has been one of those areas where broadband speeds can be problematic for some users.
Therefore, instead of waiting around for something to be done, the city and the Church of England’s Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) have agreed to allow broadband transmitters to be placed on the steeples of its churches in the area.
This means that once completed the churches will effectively become broadband relay stations for a new internet service being built by a local provider, Allpay.
According to the local newspaper, the Hereford Times, it is hoped that this scheme will dramatically improve the quality of broadband received in and around the city.
